Bon Jovi Rocks Munich

Bon Jovi is hitting the road hard in support of their 13th studio album, „What About Now.“ Together for an astonishing thirty years, these boys from working class Sayreville, New Jersey do not rest on their impressive laurels and take the easy road as a nostalgia act. Instead, they continue to deliver what they have become synonymous with – well-crafted and stadium-friendly good-time rock.

The band has seen its share of interpersonal drama – and even a personnel change or two – during its long history. Due to personal reasons, lead guitarist Richie Sambora is not playing this leg of the tour, and Phil ‚Phil X‘ Xenidis, who played with Triumph and is also a session musician of great renown, is taking over the spot until Sambora’s return.
If Phil X was the slightest bit nervous about having to fill Sambora’s over-sized shoes, you never would have guessed it from his performance. Phil X delivered one blistering solo after another, exuding both confidence and comfort with his role.

People may still be speculating on Sambora’s fate with Bon Jovi, but when they erupted on the stage May 18 at Olympic Stadium, their ability to both charm and awe an audience made it clear this is a band whose continued success is due to genuine talent and not their worth as tabloid fodder.

A lot of this success is, of course, due to the stage charisma of front man Jon Bon Jovi. Jon has been a certified chick magnet since the days of playing dive bars in New Jersey, and over three decades later he still exudes a boyish yet sexy charm. Couple this personal magnetism with the musicianship of David Bryan and Tico Torres, and you may be able to grasp the excitement and enthusiasm felt by the delighted audience on Saturday night.
